Did you ever wonder why your child answers you back and/or does not listen to your advice?

You can speak from today until tomorrow, but if they have lost respect for you, then they will never listen to you. Think about in your own life growing up… You asked for advice from those you respected: A successful friend, an optimistic relative, or a role model.

As a child, you followed the rules from teachers and coaches that you respected, while also breaking them from those you did not.

A conversation starts when there is a basic standard of respect.  If that does not exist, then there may be a conversation, but it will not lead to anything.

So how does one gain respect?

Be the best you can be and strive to be better. Everybody has something that another person does not have. We were each created in this world with a mission that only you could fulfill.  If you live up to your full potential, people will recognize you and give you respect. And even with those things that you are not so good in, as long as you strive to improve, people will notice.

Nobody looks at the diplomas, or accolades you received in class, but on how you live every day and treat people. All people. It is a journey, that all should strive to improve on. Respect is not a given in life, and in fact should never be a goal. It should be the consequence of you being a great person; your best.
